Sky Sports drop live TV Carrasco update

As per Sky Sports, there has been an update on Tottenham Hotspur’s links to Atletico Madrid star Yannick Carrasco after big reports emerged earlier today.

The Lowdown: Spurs prepared to pay release clause…

On deadline day morning, Foot Mercato and journalist Santi Aouna broke news that both Spurs and Newcastle were ‘very interested’ in signing the Belgium international.

The French news outlet even lifted the lid on discussions with his agent, Pini Zahavi, with the Premier League duo also ready to pay his €60 million (£49.8m) release clause.

In an update, Sky Sports have the latest on this development.

The Latest: Sky drop update…

Sharing news on live television (via Football Daily), Sky claim that Spurs did make an enquiry for Carrasco, but the player will be going nowhere this month.

“Some news just coming through to me as we speak from trusted sources,” explained their reporter Paul Gilmour.

“Tottenham did indeed make an enquiry for Yannick Carrasco, but Atletico, no interest whatsoever in even entering discussions on him this month.

“Maybe at some point in the future, but certainly this month we’re being told Carrasco will be going nowhere.”

The Verdict: Blow for Spurs?

The forward would’ve been a real statement signing for Spurs given his proven quality, having amassed over half a century of caps in a star-studded Belgium team, not to mention his versatility to play across the forward line.

The Lilywhites could do with an additional threat in their forward ranks too, as Son Heung-min has struggled with injuries while Harry Kane has bagged just five times in the top flight this season, a far cry from his usual standards.

However, it may well be one to visit in the summer with Fabio Paratici backed to have an interest in signing the La Liga star for Antonio Conte.

Marlon Samuels failed to fire on his return to the Jamaica team but the rest of the top-order batsmen contributed significantly to a match-winning total against USA at Lauderhill in the first of three matches. Jamaica made 307 in their 50 overs after which their bowlers skittled the hosts for 175, securing a comfortable 132-run victory. The game was a comeback for Samuels, who was slapped with a two-yearban for breaking International Cricket Council rules relating to “receivingmoney, benefit or other reward which could bring him or the game of cricketinto disrepute.”Jamaica’s openers, Danza Hyatt and Donovan Pagon, added 122 for the first wicket after Tamar Lambert won the toss. Hyatt made 73 off 84 balls, and was the first wicket to fall in the 23rd over, while Pagon went on to reach 97. He added 40 runs for the second wicket with Samuels, who was dismissed for 11, and found support in his captain Lambert.Lambert went on to make a half-century at nearly a run a ball to steer Jamaica past 300. USA used as many as eight bowlers, among whom offspinner Asad Ghous has the best figues – 2 for 42, including the wickets of Hyatt and Lambert.USA’s chase got off to a disastrous start with opener Carl Wright getting run out off the first ball. His partner, Jamaica-born Orlando Baker, top-scored with 56 but left-arm medium-pacer Krishmar Santokie struck twice in the eighth over to reduce the hosts to 25 for 3. From there a steady fall of wickets crippled the chase and USA were all out for 175 in the 49th over.

Rangers: Simons transfer claim emerges

An exciting claim has been made regarding Rangers and the chances of Giovanni van Bronckhorst landing one of the Ibrox club’s top targets…

What’s the talk?

Get French Football News journalist Adam White has claimed that PSG youngster Xavi Simons could be interested in a move to Ibrox, having been linked with a switch to the Scottish giants in recent months.

The reporter told GIVEMESPORT when asked about a potential deal:

“Would he go to Rangers? In theory, I think that I could see that happening and I could see him wanting to go.

“But I think it’s one of those things that’s perhaps still in the very early stages if it is happening at all.”

Buzzing

Van Bronckhorst will surely be buzzing with this news for several reasons. Firstly, it suggests that there is the potential for this deal to be done from the player’s perspective, which indicates that he would be interested in working for the Dutchman at Ibrox.

He will also be excited by this claim as Simons could be an excellent addition to the Rangers squad if they are able to snap him up this month. The 18-year-old has broken through into the first-team set-up at PSG with four senior outings this term – two coming in the league.

The boss of the Ligue 1 giants, Mauricio Pochettino, hailed the youngster’s versatility earlier this month, saying:

“Xavi Simons? There is a big difference between the reserve and the first team. Xavi can play in different positions; as a torchbearer, he can also play on the side. Maturity comes with time; you have to take into account the leadership of the team and complementarities.”

If he is deemed good enough to compete in the forward areas with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar and Angel Di Maria, then he could have what it takes to be a key player for the Gers. The aforementioned PSG stars are all regulars in Ligue 1 and the Champions League, with Messi recently being named in the FIFPro World XI.

This shows the level of quality he is playing alongside and why he could be an immediate asset to Rangers as he is already mixing it with them at the age of 18. His record of five goals and six assists in 12 games for PSG’s U19 team also highlights the talent he has and suggests that he could add an extra attacking edge to van Bronckhorst’s side.

The ex-Feyenoord boss could also be buzzing with this prospective deal as Simons is someone he’d be able to coach over a number of years. He could oversee the player’s development and help him to fulfil his potential, which would be thoroughly enjoyable for the head coach if he is successful.

NUFC: Downie drops claim on Wood

An update has emerged on Newcastle United, regarding their pursuit of Burnley striker Chris Wood…

What’s the talk?

Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie has revealed that the Clarets did not expect the Magpies to stump up the cash to activate his release clause.

He initially Tweeted: “Also hearing as per @JPercyTelegraph that Chris Wood is travelling to the North East tonight for a medical. Newcastle have met his Burnley release clause, which is thought to be in the region of £20m.”

The reporter then added: “Burnley were aware of Chris Wood’s release clause but didn’t think Newcastle would trigger it. They thought it was too high. Clarets angry that Wood would leave to a relegation rival. His Burnley contract was up next year.”

Delight

This update from Downie will surely leave Newcastle fans feeling delighted as it perfectly illustrates the muscle they now have in the transfer market. Long gone are the days of refusing to pay loan fees and missing out on signings because of it.

PIF are making serious moves and putting their money where their mouth is, as shown by Burnley’s surprise at this deal for the striker. That is why fans will be over the moon as it shows that their club is making strides off the pitch in order to change their fortunes around on it.

The supporters will also be buzzing as it means that Wood is poised to arrive to bolster the squad. He is a proven Premier League goalscorer and could provide a lift to the squad on the pitch in the second half of the campaign.

He has previously been compared to Magpies legend Alan Shearer, with former Leeds man Ben Parker saying of a goal he scored for the Whites:

“It was a fantastic header. He’s kind of like Sheareresque and I don’t think there are many strikers in the division, especially in the Championship, even going to the Premier League, who would have scored with that header.”

Wood has scored 10+ goals in each of the past four seasons leading up to the 2021/22 campaign. This shows that he knows how to find the back of the net at this level and could be a key asset for Howe in the coming months as they attempt to work their way out of the relegation zone, which is why fans will be buzzing with the deal overall.
