O Campeonato Carioca estreia no próximo sábado, mas o evento que marcou a inauguração do torneio aconteceu nesta sexta-feira, no Maracanã. Treinadores e dirigentes dos 12 clubes que disputam o torneio compareceram e falaram sobre as suas expectativas. O torneio tem início neste sábado, dia 19 de janeiro, e final prevista para 21 de abril, mas contará com novidades para este ano.

A grande novidade para a edição 2019 será o uso do VAR nas fases decisivas do Campeonato Carioca. A FERJ pagará o uso da tecnologia em dez jogos desta edição: semifinais e finais dos turnos e a decisão do campeonato. O custo será de R$ 28 mil para cada partida. Em 2020, a expectativa é que a tecnologia baixe para R$ 25 mil.

O troféu deste ano será uma homenagem a Mário Jorge Lobo Zagallo. Por isso, levará o nome o maior vencedor de Copas do Mundo na história em funções diferentes – 1958 e 1964 como jogador, 1970 como treinador e 1994 como assistente técnico. O ‘Lobo’ não compareceu ao evento, mas enviou um vídeo agradecendo a homenagem e desejando sorte aos clubes.

Durante o evento, 11 dos 12 treinadores que disputarão o Campeonato Carioca foram convidados ao palco – o do Resende não chegou a tempo – e iniciaram uma rodada de perguntas entre si. Alberto Valentim revelou que Máxi López não atuará na primeira rodada, Diniz desmistificou o seu estilo de jogo “não convencional” e Abel brincou com responsabilidade de disputar um torneio com o nome de Zagallo.

I have learnt so much from being here and will take a lot away with me, from every person that I have come into contact with at the club.”As much as playing cricket for Sussex has been an exciting and happy time for me, there have been parts of my life I have missed, namely being with my family and living in Cape Town.”I believe I need to take a break from cricket for a year, during which time I wish to explore wildfire fighting and emergency services. A equipe carioca dominou as ações desde o início da partida e, diante de um adversário que sentia o sol forte, não demorou a abrir o placar. Rodrigo Andrade cruzou da direita e, após matar no peito, Everton Sena concluiu para a rede aos 18.

Em seguida, Rodrigo Andrade e Diego Maia tentaram finalizações, mas a bola passou rente à trave. Coube ao inspirado Rodrigo Andrade marcar o segundo gol. Após cruzamento de Diego Maia, ele levou a melhor sobre a defesa e concluiu, aos 29.

O panorama não mudou na volta do intervalo, mesmo com a série de mudanças. Mesmo cadenciando a partida, a Portuguesa-RJ desperdiçou chances com Maicon Assis e Nilson. Já o Marítimo, que pouco ameaçara na etapa inicial, teve sua única chance quando Luan concluiu livre e obrigou Juan Souza a espalmar à queima-roupa.

Na reta final, Denílson finalizou rasteiro de fora da área e, após um desvio na zaga, a bola foi para o fundo da rede. A Portuguesa-RJ ratificava uma goleada por 3 a 0.

Australia wicketkeeper Matthew Wade is in doubt for the third Test after hurting his ankle while playing basketball in Chandigarh on Saturday. Brad Haddin has been placed on standby for Wade and is a strong chance to fly to India, pending the result of scans on Sunday morning, four days before the start of the Test.”Matt Wade sprained his right ankle playing basketball yesterday afternoon,” Australia physio Alex Kountouris said. “His ankle is subsequently swollen and painful so will have a scan this morning to help determine the extent of the injury and how we manage it. He will not take part in today’s training session.”This is the second consecutive Test in which there has been doubt surrounding Wade’s fitness, after he suffered a minor fracture to his cheek while facing throwdowns in the nets on the eve of the second Test in Hyderabad. Wade played that match and scored 62 in the first innings batting at No.6, which has been his position since the final Test of the home summer.There was no backup wicketkeeper in the group in the lead-up to the second Test and Phillip Hughes, who has occasionally stood in at state and international level, was in line to take the gloves had Wade been ruled out. But the longer break ahead of the third Test means there will be plenty of time to fly Haddin to India if required.Haddin has played four Tests in India, all during the 2008 tour, and scored 163 at an average of 27.16. However, he has been in strong Sheffield Shield form this summer and has made 468 runs at 52 including two centuries. Wade has performed well with the bat at Test level, scoring a century at No.6 in the Sydney Test against Sri Lanka, but his glovework has been shaky at times.”I don’t know the extent of the injury but with Matty I definitely think he’s a chance of carrying it through if it’s only something minor,” the allrounder Moises Henriques said on Sunday morning. “I haven’t seen him since it happened. He won’t be training with us [today], but he’s as tough a little character as there is, so if there’s a chance of him playing he certainly will.”The Australians arrived in Chandigarh on Thursday but the players have had two days off since following their innings defeat in Hyderabad. The squad will train at the Mohali ground for the first time on Sunday.

O primeiro reforço do Santos para a temporada 2019 pode ser um goleiro de Copa do Mundo. Trata-se de Martin Campaña, titular do Independiente-ARG e integrante do elenco da seleção uruguaia na Rússia. As negociações estariam avançadas, de acordo com a Tyc Sports, que revelou o interesse pela primeira vez.

A contratação do goleiro argentino seria um pedido do técnico Jorge Sampaoli. O Peixe, inclusive, já teria feito a primeira proposta, algo em torno de três milhões de dólares, que foi rejeitada pelo Independiente. No entanto, segundo o agente do jogador, Flavio Perchman, a diferença entre o que o clube brasileiro ofereceu e o que o argentino pede não seria um obstáculo.

– Houve uma oferta, mas que precisa ser aumentada, nada mais do que algo relacionado a impostos. Coisas que estão sendo tratadas entre os clubes, estou cuidando mais da parte do jogador – afirmou Perchman à rádio El Mundo, da Argentina.

O empresário se mostrou otimista em relação ao desfecho das tratativas. Para ele, que já havia declarado à Tyc Sports que não seria ruim uma mudança de ares para o goleiro, o negócio tem tudo para acontecer entre as partes.

– Creio que Campaña jogará no Santos. Estou otimista que a negociação termine bem. Não há qualquer detalhe que indique que o acordo não vá acontecer – comentou o empresário à rádio El Mundo, da Argentina.

No momento, o Peixe conta com três arqueiros em seu elenco: Vanderlei (o titular), Vladimir (o reserva imediato) e João Paulo (terceira opção). No caso de Campaña chegar, é possível que um dos citados acima seja negociado ou liberado para procurar outro clube.

As Australia ponder the output of their Test openers, Sri Lanka have an opening conundrum brewing of their own. In ODIs, Sri Lanka are so awash with talent, they routinely play four capable openers in the XI, yet in Tests there has been a dearth of men with technique and mettle to chisel out a long-term role atop the batting order.Sri Lanka’s last tour of Australia in 2007 was Marvan Atapattu’s swansong, and his long-time partner Sanath Jayasuriya played his final Test not long after. Though Tillakaratne Dilshan has advanced Jayasuriya’s legacy in the years since, Sri Lanka have not found a bona-fide successor for Atapattu, though several have been trialled.Tharanga Paranavitana has had a steady spell of opportunities since his debut in early 2009, but while he has shared Atapattu’s penchant for collecting ducks, his career has also been frustrated by middling scores and a limited range of strokes. At times he has been defensively capable, but mentally tentative – particularly susceptible outside off stump, where his powers of judgement have been found frail.Paranavitana had appeared to overcome a slow start in Test cricket when he made hundreds in back-to-back matches against India in 2010, but has not crossed triple figures in 39 innings since. Sri Lanka rightly acknowledge that their domestic competition does not produce opening batsmen who can find immediate success in Test cricket, but with 32 matches now behind him, the team may have hoped Paranavitana was further along in his development. In 2012, he has played 10 innings and made only one 50, averaging a shade below 30.Perhaps partly in the hope of spurring Paranavitana’s stagnating output, Sri Lanka have taken a spare left-hand opener to Australia. Dimuth Karunaratne got a Test debut when Dilshan sat out the first Test against New Zealand through injury, and a sparkling unbeaten half-century in the second innings of that match earned him a place in the squad to Australia a day later. Sri Lanka are unlikely to displace Paranavitana early in the series, but Karunaratne’s presence will serve as a statement to Paranavitana that he cannot subsist on the selector’s largesse for long.”Dimuth has been around for a long time and when he got his opportunity in Galle he showed his potential,” Mahela Jayawardene, Sri Lanka’s captain, said ahead of the series. “It’s healthy for everyone to have some sort of competition in order to push ourselves to keep improving.”Jayawardene has seen both men develop at first-class level: they open together for the Sinhalese Sports Club, where Jayawardene also cut his teeth. Though Karunaratne and Paranavitana will compete for a spot in the XI in Australia, they have been earmarked as potential long-term openers when Dilshan retires from Tests. Karunaratne’s aggression has complemented Paranavitana’s more circumspect approach in their time together at SSC, and Jayawardene suggested the synergy they have established in domestic cricket may help ensure a successful partnership in years to come.”What we’re looking into developing for the future is to try and get a combination that will be there for a while. It’s very important that the two guys are comfortable and understand each other’s game, because the start makes a big difference.”I think Dimuth adjusted pretty well to international cricket. He knows his game quite well, which helps him. International cricket is always going to be a big step up for anybody. We’ve said to Dimuth that the first six months will be a honeymoon period after which the other teams will analyse you and then it will get tougher. He has got a good head to handle all that. Tharanga is another guy who I’ve played with quite a bit and who has had that same kind of commitment. We need to make sure we help them develop.”For the moment, Paranavitana’s place is the only one in any sort of contention in Sri Lanka’s top seven. Jayawardene believed Paranavitana’s inability to make his position his own despite the extended run is not down to flaws in technique.”It’s about consistency. From time to time we’ve had chats with him and the coaches have been working with him. I think he’s got the technique, but it’s the mental approach that he sometimes makes mistakes with. Technically he’s very sound, but he needs to approach certain situations differently. He needs to work hard at that.”It’s a tough position. Openers always will always have tough times. That’s not just in the Sri Lankan team, that happens in other international sides as well. You need to show authority and feel confidence about that position. That’s where everything is being set up for the rest of the batting order.”
