أبلغ مدافع الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي برشلونة، رونالد أروخو، إدارة العملاق الكتالوني والجهاز الطبي، بقراره النهائي خلال الاجتماع الذي تم عقده اليوم الإثنين.

كان هناك اجتماع مهم جدًا في برشلونة لحسم مصير أروخو وإصابته في وتر العضلة الطويلة المقربة في الساق اليمنى.

ولكن بعد اجتماع اليوم، قرر أروخو الموافقة على إجراء العملية وبالتالي سيكون خارج بطولة كأس العالم 2022 في قطر مع منتخب أوروجواي، بحسب صحيفة “ماركا” الإسبانية.

لم يصدر برشلونة البيان الرسمي حتى الآن، لكن اللاعب سيسافر إلى فنلندا يوم الخميس المقبل، لإجراء الجراحة التي ستكون أفضل لأروخو في المستقبل.

Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing up a potential move to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Opportunity?

There may be a good opportunity for the St James’ Park club to sign the 24-year-old next month, as The Daily Mail have reported that he is ‘irritated’ by the lack of action that he is currently getting at the Emirates Stadium.

The Englishman has not played in the Premier League since the Gunners’ 4-0 drubbing at Liverpool last month, and he has started just two games in total, only playing the full 90 minutes once (Transfermarkt).

Given that he only has 18 months left on his current deal, Mikel Arteta’s team may look at January as the best possible time to sell.

The Latest: Newcastle monitoring

According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle are now ‘monitoring’ Maitland-Niles’ situation in north London ahead of a potential swoop in the winter window.

However, Everton could revisit the interest that they had previously showed in him in the summer, and a number of other clubs could also come in if he is made available.

The Verdict: Smart move

The Magpies should be familiar with Maitland-Niles and what he could offer given that they have faced a few times in the top flight. In fact, he has won more matches against them (five) than any other team in his career so far (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, despite his lack of playing time so far this season, he is still a ‘huge talent’ as Arteta has pointed out, and has probably not reached his full potential yet at 24 years of age. His ability to play in a number of different roles on the pitch would also be very useful to Eddie Howe if Newcastle start to pick up a lot of injuries or suspensions.

If Maitland-Niles can rekindle the form which got him in the England squad under Gareth Southgate last year, then he would surely be a valuable asset on Tyneside.

The Lowdown: Sanches linked with Wolves move

The 24-year-old was linked with a switch to Molineux a number of times during the summer, as the club eyed up a high-profile transfer.

Instead, Sanches ended up remaining at Lille, where he has made 10 appearances in Ligue 1 so far this season, with one goal and one assist to his name.

It appears that a move to Wolves may not be dead in the water, though, if a fresh update is to be believed.

The Latest: Hatfield makes key claim

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Hatfield claimed that a deal almost being struck in the summer bodes well for Wolves, hinting at it materialising at some point soon:

“It’s a good sign for Wolves that they managed to get as close as possible without actually completing the transfer.

“Of course, I’m not too sure on the situation in terms of whether contracts were agreed with the player and whether the wages were right for him and Wolves, but it’s a good sign that Wolves and Lille managed to get that far for sure.”

The Verdict: Is he worth it?

Sanches’ quality as a footballer is plain to be seen – he has been hailed as ‘incredible’ by Kevin Campbell – with the midfielder winning Euro 2016 with Portugal and also scooping the prestigious European Golden Boy award in the same year.

The one nagging doubt regarding Wolves’ interest in him is his injury problems, considering that he has never made more than 16 league starts in a season.

That being said, Sanches would bring something different to Bruno Lage’s midfield – he is averaging 1.4 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per game in the league in 2021/22. At Molineux, the former tally is matched only by Raul Jimenez, while Adama Traore is the one Wolves player to surpass the latter figure.

The Portuguese gem could be worth taking a gamble on, considering that he is still only 24 and clearly boasts plenty of ability as evidenced above, but Hatfield’s optimism may bode well for Wolves’ chances of striking a deal for him.

The Lowdown: Nandez constantly linked with Leeds

Few players were linked with a move to Leeds in the summer more often than Nandez, who was constantly tipped to head to Elland Road, with Victor Orta even jetting to Sardinia to try and complete a move.

Instead, the 25-year-old ended up staying at Cagliari, for the time being at least, where he has registered two Serie A assists this season.

It appears as though Nandez could still move on in the near future, however, with Leeds receiving a fresh boost this week, in that respect.

According to CalcioNapoli24 [via Sport Witness], Nandez ‘can leave in January’, with the midfielder on the cusp of winning his 50th cap for Uruguay.

West Ham are mentioned as coming ‘very close’ to signing him in the summer, perhaps suggesting that the Hammers could also make a move in January alongside the Whites.

The Verdict: Snap him up, Orta

As reports continue to link Kalvin Phillips with a move away from Leeds, it could be that Marcelo Bielsa and Orta have to find a tailor-made replacement for him.

In Nandez, the Whites could have exactly that, with the Uruguayan a force both in and out of possession, as is the case with Phillips.

The Cagliari man is averaging 1.1 key passes per game in the league this season, which is almost double what the Leeds hero has managed (0.6), as well as making the same number of clearances (1.0).

A tenacious midfielder, tough in the tackle and composed on the ball, Orta and co couldn’t ask for a much better Phillips replacement if one is needed.

His first delivery was a pinpoint yorker that was too much for Matt Prior, he finished with a wicket-maiden, and from there the innings nose-dived. However, it was Lee’s last spell that was the most destructive as England’s last five wickets fell for 20.Lee was just too quick for four batsmen as he demolished the stumps with searing yorkers to complete the ninth five-wicket haul of his career. Nathan Hauritz also deserves huge credit for claiming two key wickets, including Strauss, and conceding just 23 runs from his 10 overs. In a pattern that has become eerily predictable, Andrew Strauss shone at the top with a neat 63, but once again his colleagues couldn’t follow suit.It was thrilling to watch Lee in full flow, an absent phenomenon during the Ashes series, as he uprooted the stumps of Luke Wright, Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid in the space of 15 balls. In a smart piece of captaincy from Ponting, Hauritz was removed from the attack after nine overs to allow Lee a dart before the ball was changed at 34 overs with the result being Prior’s demise.Paine pulled off a swift leg-side stumping to remove Eoin Morgan and though ideally two batsmen need to set when the batting Powerplay is taken, England had little option to call theirs soon after Wright arrived as his role in the side is to hit boundaries. It started brightly as the first two overs brought 21, but Lee soon found his range and England were blown away. In every sense.
