QPR fans laud Lee Wallace after making his debut vs Leeds

Queens Park Rangers slumped to defeat on Saturday afternoon but they still remained within one point of a playoff position.

Mark Warburton’s men were faced with a trip to Elland Road and returned back to west London with very little to show for it as Leeds United won 2-0.

The Rs boss made changes to his defence but that wasn’t enough to stop them leaking yet more goals – it is now 28 for the season, which ranks them as the second-worst in the division, per WhoScored.

One move was the introduction of Lee Wallace on the left side of the three centre-backs and despite conceding two goals, the 32-year-old impressed supporters on his debut.

‘Very promising’ and ‘steady’ were two phrases used to describe his performance while one fan went as far as saying that he looked better than Toni Leistner, who came off injured in the second half.

A further member of the Rangers crowd believes Wallace is a good addition to their defence.

West Ham’s Michail Antonio posts determined snap as recovery continues

Michail Antonio’s road to recovery has been heavily documented on social media.Watch West Ham United Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

The West Ham man has often been in a jovial mood when talking about this tough period, jokingÂaround or posting clips from films to share what he’s going through, but it seems as if he’s getting serious now as he edges closer to stepping back onto the pitch.

This post shows a much more determined attitude towards his recovery.

The fact that the time for fun is over should excite Hammers supporters, as if this type of motivation translates when he steps onto the pitch he will be better than ever before.

It remains to be seen whether or not the attacker will come back with a bang or not, but this type of mindset will certainly help him as long as he can ignite that same type of fire inside of him once he’s back playing.

Everton fans are hoping that Djibril Sidibe stays at right-back

Everton fans are praying that Djibril Sidibe remains in the starting XI over Seamus Coleman after the Frenchman put in an impressive display against West Ham United.

Sidibe was part of an Everton defence which managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time since the second game of the season. Against the Hammers, he made four tackles and had 63 touches on the ball – only Lucas Digne had more with 75, per SofaScore.

The Monaco loanee has had to settle for Carabao Cup appearances thus far, playing twice in the competition. His start over the weekend was his first in the Premier League, and fans are hoping it won’t be his last.

Some supporters have stated it’s “not even a debate”, whilst others are begging that Marco Silva does not change the winning team at all.

Sidibe’s opportunity came as a result of Coleman’s sending off against Burnley. To add to the Irishman’s woes, he was sent off again 10 days later after a blatant handball for his country against Switzerland.

Coleman will be available for Silva this weekend, though, should he wish to start the 31-year-old.

However, fans have the opposite in mind and believe now is the time for the Monaco loanee to make the spot his own.

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to club post on Heung-Min Son against Southampton

Many Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media to a recent post on the official Spurs Twitter account focusing on Heung-Min Son’s record against Southampton.

The north London outfit play home to Southampton on Saturday afternoon looking to record their third win of the Premier League campaign, and face a Ralph Hasenhuttl managed side just one point worse off after the opening six matchdays of the season.

Southampton dropped their first points since matchday two last time out, when they fell to a 3-1 defeat at home to south coast rivals AFC Bournemouth, having beaten Sheffield United and Brighton & Hove Albion either side of holding Manchester United to a draw in their prior three top-flight fixtures.

The Saints also won the last time they faced Tottenham, when goals by 20-year-old right-back Yan Valery and a direct free-kick from James Ward-Prowse overturned Harry Kane’s 17th of the term.

Son only featured as a late substitute that day, in what was his eighth league outing against the St Mary’s Stadium natives (TransferMarkt).

Chuncheon, South Korea-born Son first faced Southampton as a stoppage-time replacement for an injured Kane in December 2015, and started the reverse fixture before scoring his first goal against the Saints.

The following term saw Son score from the bench in a 4-1 win, before featuring as Tottenham recorded a 2-1 triumph as they continued what would be a five-game unbeaten run which included a further two goals and two assists for the 27-year-old.

Son has only started more Premier League games against Bournemouth, Chelsea and Arsenal than he has against Southampton, while only scoring more against the Cherries, Watford and Crystal Palace by one.

Spurs have now moved to look ahead to their latest encounter with Southampton by sharing a highlight reels of Son’s goals against the south coast side, which sparked some reaction from their fans…

Newcastle fans aren’t happy with Miguel Almiron’s showing vs Man United

Some Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to slam Miguel Almiron, following the 1-0 win against Manchester United.

The Paraguay international is yet to score a goal or register an assist for the Magpies in 18 Premier League appearances for the club, and he seemed to panic in front of goal against the Red Devils.

One moment in which Sean Longstaff pinged a superb through ball into the 25-year-old’s path saw Almiron one-on-one with David de Gea, but he took far too long before firing straight at the sliding Harry Maguire.

The former Atlanta star had three shots – all of which were off target – and also failed to record a single key pass against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

For a man who commanded a then club-record fee of £20m, the Newcastle fans on Twitter have every right to criticise the attacker given his poor output since the move.

Let’s take a look at some of the Twitter reaction from the Newcastle supporters…

Sutton slams Motherwell in sportsmanship row

[ad_pod ]Chris Sutton doesn’t have to look far to find controversy in Scottish football. On Friday night he wanted the SFA Compliance Officer to take retrospective action for two incidents of foul play that referee John Beaton didn’t deal adequately with. Those views were delivered 24 hours after watching Celtic getting knocked out of the Europa League to Valencia with Sutton back on domestic duty at Hamilton as Steven Gerrard’s side hit five without reply.

Early in the second half on Sunday, Twitter exploded with rage as Motherwell scored through Gboly Aribiyi after refusing to return the ball to Celtic who had put it out of play to allow treatment to Ryan Christie.

The home fans roared their anger at Motherwell, while Dedryck Boyata picked up a booking as the fans and players waited for an instruction from the visitors bench.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson could have instructed his side to concede a goal. But he didn’t take that opportunity and for more than 30 minutes anger engulfed the ground before Odsonne Edouard scored from a free kick to restore Celtic’s two goal advantage.

Barcelona might’ve lost the game vs Sevilla due to Valverde’s lineup

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Barcelona fell to a horrendous 2-0 defeat to Granada at the weekend, with manager Ernesto Valverde making a major mistake in his starting line-up: he included both Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.

On the chalkboard

Not many would’ve guessed that Granada would take a major scalp in the form of the Catalan giants.

But goals from Ramon Azeez and Alvaro Vadillo, the latter scoring from the penalty spot, gave the hosts all three points.

Barcelona only managed one shot on target throughout the whole 90 minutes of the game, and all of that with the likes of Lionel Messi, Suarez and Griezmann in the lineup at the same time.

But looking back, the core problem just might be that Suarez and Griezmann were together on the pitch from the get-go.

A costly error

Griezmann is currently suffering on the left-wing because of Suarez. Since the Uruguayan still seems to be the team’s number one choice in the centre-forward position, the Frenchman is consequently slotted wide instead. He has played there three times already this term.

We have already seen the differences between Griezmann’s performances when he’s playing in his natural position as opposed to what he offers when Valverde decides to drop him to the left. And it was on display against Granada once again.

The French forward managed only one shot throughout the game, also tallying no dribbles and no key passes. When we also add the fact that he only recorded 83.3% passing accuracy with just 45 touches throughout the match, the picture suddenly becomes that much clearer.

It’s safe to say that Griezmann had next to no impact on the game and he couldn’t express himself like we know he usually does. His reputation is one the footballing world is well aware of and yet, Valverde seems to be utilising him the wrong way.

What is even more concerning is Suarez’s form. The Uruguayan had a really poor display against Borussia Dortmund last week and yet, the coach decided not only to pick him in the starting lineup but also decided to sacrifice Griezmann once again to accommodate him.

This stubbornness in his team selection might prove costly for Barcelona in the long run and is already having a rather negative effect on their results.

Suarez, indeed, has scored in just one La Liga game this season – netting a brace versus Valencia – and it does not appear that he is at his sparkling best just yet.

Barca have won just two of their La Liga encounters thus far – both by 5-2 scorelines versus Valencia and Real Betis – while they have lost to Athletic Bilbao and Granada and drawn with Osasuna.

A change in tactics, then, is needed; Suarez might have to be the one to suffer.

Crook drops promising Spurs claim on D-day

Speaking to GiveMeSport, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has made a promising ‘behind the scenes’ deadline day claim at Tottenham Hotspur.

The Lowdown: Tottenham tipped to be busy…

Just over three hours of the transfer window remain and only two incomings have been confirmed, with both Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur making their way from Juventus today.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-2/” title=”Tottenham latest news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Tottenham had been tipped to be busy, with former Sky Sports reporter Aden-Jay Wood expecting ‘several’ incomings at N17 today.

Alas, with the clock ticking, it will take a dramatic late twist if multiple signings are to come through the door, but talkSPORT reporter Crook has urged Spurs fans not to lose all hope.

The Latest: Spurs working hard…

According to his sources, Tottenham are ‘still working’ as he shares their transfer movements from behind the scenes. He also believes there are a couple of names which have yet to be revealed as more Spurs signings today aren’t completely ruled out.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think there’s a couple of names that haven’t come out yet. I think they’re still working quite hard behind the scenes.”

The Verdict: Encouraging…

Signing only Kulusevski and Bentancur would be a slight disappointment from Tottenham given the plethora of links to come out over the last week of the transfer window.

Antonio Conte had earmarked the signing of a new striker, left-sided centre-half and a right-wing-back to boost Spurs’ chances of a top four finish, but it remains to be seen whether he can get any of these positions filled after all.

Bielsa issues worrying Bamford update

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa delivered a worrying update on the injury situation of Patrick Bamford following his side’s 3-3 draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

What’s he said?

Speaking after the match, the Argentinian head coach said to the BBC (via MOT Leeds News):

“He has a problem in his foot which is preventing him from running due to the pain. He’s having treatment which isn’t taking the pain away at the moment.

“The first step for his recovery is that he is able to move. That hasn’t happened and it’s impossible to imagine when that’s going to happen.”

That doesn’t make for good reading whatsoever.

Further setback

The 28-year-old striker has featured just once since the 17th of September and that was in a 22-minute cameo against Brentford, a game in which he bagged a vital equaliser before picking up another injury.

Since his hamstring problem, it seems as if the England international has now picked up a foot problem at the club’s Thorp Arch training base.

Bielsa’s comments suggest that there isn’t a timeframe on his return – unlike his other players like Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper, who are due to be back in action next month.

It isn’t out of the realms of possibility that Bamford’s season could be pretty much be all but over but we’ll have to wait for official news on that front. He has played only six league games all season.

The Yorkshire giants have sorely missed his presence upfront, which is hardly a surprise given that he finished as their top goalscorer last season on 17 goals.

That’s because Bielsa does not have a suitable alternative to lead the line. He has often turned to Daniel James and whilst that paid off in the six-goal thriller at Villa Park, it has largely been a failed experiment.

A diminutive 5 foot 7 winger isn’t going to have the same effect as Bamford.

Therefore, this latest update is sure to leave Bielsa absolutely gutted as he continues to be without such a key figure. His absence is such a big blow for Leeds.

AVFC’s El Ghazi tipped for transfer exit

So far in the current January transfer window, Villa have been rather active in the market in terms of bringing new players in such as Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho to help strengthen Steven Gerrard’s side, as well as moving players out of the club on loan deals such as Wesley and Keinan Davis.

One other player that has moved on from Villa Park this month is winger Anwar El Ghazi, who recently joined fellow Premier League club, Everton, on a loan deal until the end of the current season.

Despite it being a loan deal, the Dutchman’s future as a Villa player beyond that has recently been called into question.

What’s the latest?

Speaking to Football Insider, former Villa player Kevin Phillips had this to say about El Ghazi and his future at the Midlands club.

He said: “This is the start of the end for El Ghazi at Villa. He has been a great servant for the club over the years but the club are now moving in a different direction.

“I think it’s a great move for the player. He’s going to another big club. Everton are struggling though so the pressure is on him. It was clear that he wasn’t going to be playing every week at Villa. If he plays well at Everton he’ll be able to secure a permanent deal there in the summer.

“Will we see him in a Villa shirt again? No, we won’t.”

Lange masterclass

During his time at Villa, the 26-year-old managed to rack up 26 goals and 16 assists in 119 appearances across all competitions.

Given how he had only made three substitute appearances for Villa after Gerrard was appointed back in mid-November, it made sense for him to move elsewhere in the search for regular game time.

If Villa were to decide that El Ghazi doesn’t have a future at the club by the time his loan deal at Everton runs out, it could be another transfer masterclass from Johan Lange if they were able to pick up a suitable fee for him that they could use to strengthen their squad in the summer.

Moving forward, Villa will have to hope that the £9m-rated winger can make the most of his time at the Merseyside club and convince the club’s hierarchy that they should sign him on a permanent deal and bring an end to his Villa career.

With the Midlands club already seeing Coutinho have more of an impact on the team with his debut goal against Manchester United at the weekend than El Ghazi had done in his appearances under Gerrard, it would seem likely for them to want to secure the Brazilian on a permanent deal rather than have El Ghazi back.
